The MODIS Characterization Support Team briefed the science team representatives the performance of MODIS instrument after the safe-mode recovery. Below is the presentation summarizing the instrument performance after the safe-mode recovery.

Terra MODIS transitioned to science mode at 2016/055 at 19:26:34 GMT. More updates relating to instrument health and performance will be posted when available.

Last night (2/22/2016) the Terra FOT successfully recovered the Terra spacecraft from Safe-Mode back to Normal mode. A Command Authorization Meeting (CAM) was scheduled this morning (02/23/2016) to review the plan to recover the MODIS instrument. The recovery of the MODIS instrument is currently in progress. Updates will be posted periodically.

Terra spacecraft entered safe mode (2016/049: 14:33:17) during an IAM. This caused MODIS to enter safe mode as well. The nadir and the space-view doors are closed as expected. The solar diffuser door is still open (since the anomaly from July, 2003). Updates will be posted periodically.

MODIS Characterization Support Team

The MODIS Characterization Support Team (MCST) is dedicated to the production of a high quality MODIS calibration product. This product is a precursor to every geophysical science product. MCST works for the Science Team Leader and is responsible for developing and maintaining the calibration product (L1B algorithm).

Collection 6 has been under development for a number of years. MCST, in consultation with representatives of the science disciplines, developed improvements to the calibration algorithms and methodolgies to handle known issues with the aging MODIS sensors. Summary talks of the proposed Collection 6 changes have been delivered at the MODIS science team meetings over the last few years.
