May calibrations for the PFM MODIS instrument will include biweekly SDSM, monthly SRCA Radiometric, and bimonthly SRCA Full Spatial calibrations.

Maneuvers:

There will not be a Terra MODIS lunar calibration during the month of May. The required roll angle (-25.2278 degrees) exceeds the maximum allowed angle of -20 degrees.

The Terra Drag Make-up Maneuver was successfully executed on Wednesday, April 30, 2003 (doy 120) at 19:15 GMT. The Loss of Pointing Accuracy window was 2003/120 18:12:00 to 20:22:02.

MODIS Anomalies:

On Wednesday, April 23, 2003, the 4 part SRCA Full Spectral calibration was planned. A user error with the scheduling software resulted in the first part of the calibration being scheduled and then subsequently unscheduled. This resulted in only parts 2, 3, and 4 actually being scheduled into the stored command loads. Parts 1 and 3 of the calibration turn on the SRCA before beginning the 30 W and 10 W (respective) portions of the Spectral calibrations. Parts 2 and 4 complete their respective portions of the Spectral calibrations and then turn off the SRCA. Since part 1 was not scheduled, the SRCA was not powered when the command for part 2 was issued. Therefore, part 2 effectively did not execute, and thus no part of the 30 W portion of the Spectral calibration occurred.

At no point was the health of MODIS in danger due to the scheduling error. The entire 4 parts of the calibration will be rescheduled in the near future. More stringent user checking will take place in the future scheduling events to ensure another user error of this sort does not occur again.

General Instrument Comments:

MODIS is in Science Mode, using all A-side components, but cross-strapped to Formatter B, with the blackbody maintained at 290K.

MODIS Telemetry Trends:

Nominal telemetry trending is ongoing.
