This Week’s Scheduled MODIS Activities Not Completed:

This activity was performed by MODIS, however, the spacecraft SFE-A was down, and so no data was collected. It has been rescheduled for the upcoming week.

Maneuvers:

The next Lunar Calibration will occur on DOY 2004/070 (March 10, 2004), with a data collect time from 23:27:40 to 23:34:10. The necessary roll angle is -19.4329 degrees. The MODIS data will be adjusted for Day Rate and Sector Rotation as is standard for a Lunar Calibration.

MODIS Anomalies:

MODIS NAD (Nadir Aperture Door) Anomaly:

Telemetry still indicates that the “NAD Open” (MOD_CR_DR_NAD_OPEN) trigger is set to the “NOT_OPEN” position; however, science data has shown that the NAD is open. The NAD OPEN trigger may yet “pop” to OPEN due to thermal cycling on the trigger, as was seen on 2002/079.

General Instrument Comments:

MODIS is in Science Mode, using all A-side components, but cross-strapped to Formatter B, with the blackbody maintained at 290K and the Solar Diffuser Door at the Screened position.

MODIS Telemetry Trends:

Nominal telemetry trending is ongoing.

Non-MODIS Significant Events:

Terra SFE-A Shutdown

Overview:

On day 2004/049 at 14:31:57, the Science Formatting Equipment using A-side electronics (SFE-A) onboard the Terra spacecraft autonomously shutdown due to a TMON 16 trip while passing through the SAA. The SFE-A shutdown had no impact on MODIS operations aside from not allowing gathered data to be processed or recorded by the SSR. However, MODIS still functioned nominally. The SFE-A was successfully turned back on and Science Record was enabled at 050/16:11:38. Total data loss was from 049/14:31:57-050/16:11:38.

Terra Solid State Recorder Anomaly

Overview:

The SSR Anomaly is still under investigation. MODIS currently is operating with 34 Supersets allotted for its buffer. There are plans in the works for possibly power cycling the SSR to get back PWA’s that are in the Bad List, but no date has yet been set. There are no current plans for a change in science data capture rates. For details, see previous reports.
