This Week's Scheduled MODIS Activities Not Completed:
None
This Month's Upcoming MODIS Events:
Calibrations for October will include an SRCA Radiometric (DOY 283), an SRCA Spectral (DOY 285), a Lunar Roll (DOY 290), an SDSM Screened (DOY 291), and a Black Body Cycle (DOY 292-295).
Maneuvers:
The Terra Inclination Adjustment Maneuver (IAM) #30 on DOY 299 (10/26/2011) was completed successfully. Maneuver start time was 299/15:16:06 and maneuver end time was 299/15:21:26. The loss of pointing accuracy times were 299/13:56:00 - 16:55:38.
MODIS Anomalies:
There was a Terra MODIS data loss 288/02:33:34 - 288/02:57:35 due to TDRS and FOT problems coming into the PF1 contact on DOY 288 at 04:21:53 Terra had very high buffers. S-band was fading in and out, but the FOT was able to command a playback. The playback was partially degraded due to data hits. There was no chance to replay the affected data since it had been overwritten before the next TDE contact. All of the MODIS data was recovered from the Direct Broadcast community.
General Instrument Comments:
MODIS is in Science Mode, using all A-side components, but cross-strapped to Formatter B, with the blackbody maintained at 290K and the Solar Diffuser Door at the Screened position.
MODIS Telemetry Trends:
Nominal telemetry trending is ongoing.
Non-MODIS Significant Events:
The EMOS mission status webpage (which includes instrument data loss records) can be found at the following URL. Note that a password is now required to access the EOS mission links web pages. There are directions at the URL below for how to obtain a username/password.
Following the Inclination Maneuver on DOY 286 (10/13/09), Terra experienced a Hex Bay Battery (BBAT) cell #50 failure and simultaneously (or close to same time) experienced a Battery Heater Control Electronic anomaly which prevents controlling the temperature for 5 of the 9 heater groups within BBAT. Cell #50 has failed and is non-recoverable. Battery temperatures have stabilized and battery cell temperatures are within an acceptable range. Terra has a robust power system with two 54 cell batteries that feed a power control system that maintains a stable 120V spacecraft power bus even if multiple cells fail. At this point in time the Terra Battery Anomaly is not affecting science data collection and all MODIS systems are nominal. There has been little if any impact to operations since the issue began. All operations are nominal.
