This Week's Scheduled MODIS Activities Not Completed:

MODIS FIFO TMON load/enable; the TMON could not yet be designed for Aqua in an identical manner as used on Terra. The TMON will only be loaded if it can be developed with the full desired functionality.

Upcoming MODIS Events:

  • MET day 38, June 11th: Sector Rotation Test, Solar Diffuser door tests, SDSM functional test, PV electronics calibration
  • MET day 39, June 12th: SD/SDSM calibrations (Screened and Open) in MCL
  • MET day 41, June 14th: First set of six MODIS yaw maneuvers; SD screen closed
  • MET day 42, June 15th: Second set of six MODIS yaw maneuvers; SD screen closed
  • MET day 43, June 16th: SD/SDSM calibrations (Screened and Open) in MCL
  • MET day 44, June 17th: PV/PC electronics calibration, PC-17 1W SRCA Spatial Test, Blackbody turn on and set temperature to 285K, SRCA Full Radiometric Test in MCL
  • MET day 45, June 18th: SRCA Full Spatial Test in MCL
  • MET day 46, June 19th: SRCA Full Spectral Test in MCL
  • MET day 47, June 20th: Sector Rotation Test in MCL
MODIS Lunar Calibration via Roll Maneuver
Note: There may not be an opportunity for the spacecraft to roll for MODIS to view the moon on this date. This activity is still being worked into the schedule.
  • MET day 48, June 21st: Blackbody 'stepped' calibration
  • MET day 52, June 25th: Third set of six MODIS yaw maneuvers; SD screen opened
  • MET day 53, June 26th: Fourth set of six MODIS yaw maneuvers; SD screen opened
    Open Nadir Door; FIRST LIGHT!
Note: The nadir door opening may be scheduled to occur over a particular region of the earth and thus may slip to the next day.
  • MET day 54, June 27th: Detector Voltage Bias Vdet/Itwk sweeps
Note: The Vdet/Itwk sweeps are currently scheduled for the day following the nadir door opening, but a request has been made to wait for one complete earth coverage worth of data (two days) with the nadir door open before doing these activities.

Maneuvers:

Current Ascent Plan (as of June 7th, 2002):

  • Ascent 1 on May 13, 2002 at 12:14 for 335.000 seconds - Successful
  • Ascent 2 on June 5th, 2002 at 15:13 for 962 seconds - Successful
  • Burn #3: June 8th, 2002 at 13:02:00, 760 second duration
  • Burn #4: June 10th, 2002 at 12:43:00, 827 second duration
  • Burn #5: June 13th, 2002 at 13:51:00, 571 second duration
  • Burn #6: June 18th, 2002 at 16:40:00, 621 second duration

MODIS Anomalies:

General Instrument Comments:

MODIS is currently in B-Side Science Mode (Power Supply 2, Control Processor B) with the Space View Door at its Open Position. The cold focal planes are still cooling since the outgas heaters were turned off at 13:38 GMT June 7th.

MODIS Telemetry Trends:

MODIS telemetry is consistent with what is expected with MODIS in Science Mode with the focal planes cooling. It is expected to take 36-48 hours for the cold focal planes to reach nominal operating temperature since the transition to Science Mode.

The 8V and 15V mnemonics that had been occasionally exceeding their yellow limits are now operating closer to the expected values.

Non-MODIS Significant Events:

Wednesday, June 5, 2002

156/14:30 Spacecraft yaw begins in preparation for ascent burn.
156/14:39 Spacecraft yawed to 14.34 degrees.
156/15:13 Ascent burn begins.
156/15:29 Ascent burn completes (962 seconds total).
156/15:34 Back in fine pointing.
156/16:00 Yaw back to nominal starts.
156/16:09 Spacecraft yaw finished.

Friday, June 7, 2002
