The yaw maneuvers use sector rotation (to -3400 counts). During this time, the formatter is set to DAY rate. In order to balance the MODIS data output, and equal amount of NIGHT rate data will be collected during what would normally be DAY rate.

The -11.6745 degree roll maneuver for the MODIS lunar calibration is scheduled for June 20th, 2002. The roll out slew will begin at 6:33:19 and reach the rolled position at 16:41:35. The return slew will begin at 16:49:05 and reach the nominal position at 16:57:21.

The next twelve yaw maneuvers for MODIS SD/SDSM calibrations are now scheduled for June 23rd and 24th with six maneuvers on each of those days.

Yaw maneuvers for CERES calibrations are planned for Wednesday, June 26th. Five yaw maneuvers are scheduled with angles alternating between -0.8 and 14 degrees.

The Deep Space Calibration pitch maneuver(s) is(are) currently scheduled for July 24th.

Ascent Plan:

  • Ascent 1 on May 13, 2002 at 12:14 for 335 seconds - Successful
  • Ascent 2 on June 5th, 2002 at 15:13 for 962 seconds - Successful
  • Ascent 3 on June 8th, 2002 at 13:02 for 760 second - Successful
  • Ascent 4 on June 10th, 2002 at 14:20 for 945 seconds - Successful
  • Ascent 5 on June 13th, 2002 at 13:50 for 750 seconds - Successful
  • Ascent 6 on June 17th, 2002 at 16:00 for 680 seconds - Successful

The final ascent burn started at 16:00:05 (five seconds late). The burn was successful and Aqua has now attained its desired operational orbit.

MODIS Anomalies:

5D/77 CP Event Pairs:

  • 56 pairs have been received total.
  • 23 pairs between the first Turn On (DOY 127) and S/C to Survival Mode (DOY 139).
  • 32 pairs between the second Turn On (DOY 144) and Science Mode Transition (DOY 158).
  • 1 pair since Science Mode Transition (DOY 158).
  • The last event pair was seen on DOY 167 at 17:30:43.

5D Single CP Event:

  • No 77 following message, no related MODIS commanding in proximity.
  • 3 single events have been received, times listed below.
  • DOY 162 at 14:16:59 (roughly 92 hours after Science Mode transition).
  • DOY 166 at 20:44:46 (midway between the 10.4 and 13 degree yaw maneuvers, not during).
  • DOY 167 at 14:27:50 (no commands in near proximity).

77 Single CP Event:

  • No 5D preceding message, no related MODIS commanding in proximity.
  • 1 single event has been received, time listed below.
  • DOY 164 at 00:35:39 (64 seconds after CP Macro 9, SDD to Close, in an SD/SDSM Screened, SDSM fixed at Sun, calibration. The macro was still running when the event occurred).

5D Yaw Maneuver Events:

  • 9 single 5D event messages were observed throughout the SD/SDSM Yaw Maneuvers.
  • Each of these events occurred within 7 to 10 seconds after a sector rotation (to -3400) command for the SD/SDSM calibrations.
  • An event did not occur for every calibration, and some calibrations resulted in two 5D events.

General Instrument Comments:

MODIS is currently in B-Side Science Mode (Power Supply 2, Control Processor B) with the Space View Door at its Open Position. The instrument has reached its nominal operating temperature.

MODIS Telemetry Trends:

No abnormal telemetry trends have been observed. The cold focal plane heater voltage is being monitored, but there is no definitive evidence of a decrease in temperature margin.

The cold focal plane heater started controlling at 83K (with the SMIR focal plane heater) on Sunday, June 9th at 18:26 GMT. The blackbody stabilized at 285K at approximately 18:40 GMT June 11th.
