January calibrations: biweekly SDSM, monthly SRCA Radiometric, bimonthly SRCA Spatial, quarterly SRCA Spectral, and quarterly Black Body.
February calibrations: biweekly SDSM, monthly SRCA Radiometric, and bimonthly PV Ecal.
A flight software patch is planned to the Control Processor CP07 mode transition table to not turn off the instrument formatter when MODIS transitions to Safe Mode.
Maneuvers:
The next Aqua MODIS Lunar Calibration via roll maneuver will be on February 12th, 2003 (2003/043). The roll angle will be -11.6949 degrees and the data collection period will be from 13:58:42 to 14:05:12 GMT.
The next Aqua drag make-up maneuver will be on January 30, 2003. The burn will be approximately 60 seconds in duration at 2003/030 21:26:30, with the slew out beginning at 2003/030 19:33:44 GMT. The S/C will return to normal attitude 2003/030 22:25:00 GMT.
The Deep Space Calibration pitch maneuver(s) have been indefinitely suspended pending mission review.
MODIS Anomalies:
Several Memory Loads and Dumps to the MODIS instrument had been planned as part of the Aqua MODIS SRCA crosstalk calibration scheduled for 2003/021. The first three memory dumps of that plan (~13:00 GMT) were to be used to gather the baseline values of the memory locations involved with the SD/SRCA sector swapping loads. All three memory dumps failed.
There is no threat to the health and safety of the MODIS instrument. MODIS is still in science mode and producing data nominally. Those SRCA calibrations planned for 2003/021 will be postponed. Inhibit ID #63 was set to prevent the calibrations from executing. Shortly after 22:31:05 GMT ISC SCS #69 was activated to turn off the MODIS SRCA calibrator.
A CAM had been scheduled for 2:30 EST that afternoon to discuss another patch to the MODIS control processor. That CAM has been postponed. In its place an anomaly review meeting was being held to discuss the dropped command events.
The cause of the dropped commands was determined to be a result of the Aqua BST patch created to resolve the timing problems that caused the previous MODIS stored command drop events. The memory dump procedures were the first real-time commands sent to MODIS since the patch had been loaded to the Aqua BST to swap the CTC-to-MODIS and ISC-to-MODIS command slots. Whereas about 1 in 1000 ISC stored commands were being dropped without any BST patches, all five of the real-time commands that were sent in those procedures did not reach MODIS. The patch created for the Aqua BST was missing a value used for determining correct transaction enable and disable states. Thereby, the stored commands for MODIS disable the ground commanding for MODIS. The test to re-enable the MODIS ground commanding transaction was successful. The subsequent MEM_HALT command arrived at MODIS. Afterward, the stored Formatter Day/Night mode command executed as scheduled, and as predicted, disabled the MODIS ground commanding transaction.
Work is underway to fix the current BST patch as well as modify the final BST patch that was nearing final review approval.
A work around process, in the event of a MODIS red limit anomaly, has already been outlined. This ensures that MODIS will be safely protected in any anomalous situation requiring non-stored-command commanding.
General Instrument Comments:
FM1 MODIS is in Science Mode. The SVD and NAD are Open, the survival heaters are enabled, and the Black Body is heated to 285 K.
MODIS Telemetry Trends:
The FM1 MODIS instrument telemetry is trending nominally. A slight increase in the radiative cooler intermediate stage temperature has been observed along with a decrease in the focal plane heater power usage. The radiative cooler temperatures has not leveled off as dramatically for the FM1 MODIS as they did for the PFM MODIS, but the intermediate stage temperature has only risen about 1 degree Celsius and the focal plane heater still has approximately 40mW of power margin remaining. These telemetry points will continue to be closely monitored.
